DaGhans ~ Sheila Robertson's Bio
sheila Robertson Sheila
Sheila was born and raised in a home with Norwegian Elkhounds.   At the age of seven months her parents had two litters of pups and Sheila was filled with excitement.   She became the proud owner of her very own puppy, Snoopy, at age two.
Sheila's father, Norm, has bred and shown many champions over the years, at times importing dogs directly from Norway.   In 1973 he had the top Elkhound in Canada and in 1975 that dogs son was top dog.   Norm continues to breed today under the Kennel name 'Vigeland'.

Sheila began to show dogs at a very young age.  Pictured below she was about 5 years old moving a dog out across the field ..... Clothes?   Only rubber boots are really required to show dogs.

Sheila became an avid Junior Handler and took delight in handling many different breeds

She was president of the Jr. 4H Dog Club in Mission, BC and attended Handling Classes under the late Elsie Murray who was "One Tough Teacher"

Sheila also showed her 1/2 Saddlebred mare, Bonnie, in many Local Shows. It was not unusual for her to ride the 10 miles to the events, show all day, then ride the 10 miles home. Boneweary and happy with the ribbons that were won.

& Best opposite Sex

Sheila showed her dogs till 1986. After that she moved to the NWT, got married and raised children.   She did however breed a couple of litters in the early 90's; but showing only once at a local Whitehorse show.

2005 ~ it was time to get back into the saddle again and buy a show dog.... But why Afghans after a long history with Elkhounds?     When Sheila was nine or ten she found an Afghan pup in the school yard. She brought the dog home and fell in love with him, however as the dog was a bit of a houdini and would somehow climb into the girls pen he was not allowed to continue living there. It was a short love relationship which lasted two to three weeks; but left a lasting memory on Sheila's heart and she was determined that one day she would have another.

The search was on .... Canada, the States and then Germany and Scent-of-Fame Afghan Hounds where we found Dean.   The rest of the story can be found on the pages of this site.
